“It is an imitation more real somehow than that which it emulates.” Buzz Rickson’s gets a shoutout in William Gibson’s 2003 sci-fi novel Pattern Recognition, as he describes the beloved MA-1 jacket belonging to the heroine, Cayce Pollard, and manufactured by Japan’s masters of historical repro. While the MA-1 jacket was never historically produced in a black colorway, the fictionalized Buzz jacket in Pattern Recognition is black, to suit the author’s unique vision of a cold, post-9/11 world. Buzz Rickson’s has produced this piece as a nod back to Gibson, and we at F&P couldn’t resist. Made of black nylon and lined with wool pile, this jacket provides warmth, boasts painstaking detail, and is perhaps the most niche item we’ve ever carried.
